Hi, I'm Aurelie - the Founder of Memoria. I wanted to take a moment and share a little about why I decided to start Memoria, and why I'm so passionate about our mission.
Memoria was born out of personal experience.
After losing my grandfather, I witnessed the struggle our family went through, trying to navigate a confusing, complicated and unguided process. Not to mention everything had to be arranged offline and options presented to us couldn't have been more generic.
Attending funerals in recent years, I noticed that not much had changed, with funerals usually involving gatherings in traditional funeral parlours, overpriced caskets, and sombre reflections about the person who died. While this may be perfect for some, I felt it might not be quite right for others.
The more I spoke to family and friends, the more I realized many Americans wished they could organize a unique farewell, from the comfort of their homes - so, I built Memoria for them.
The death of a loved one is life's most challenging event – their funeral should be anything but confusing, emotionally draining and expensive.
